Combustion Game Engine - Blods
The iPhone and iPod product ranges are one of the most popular and successful products that Apple ships.
It is almost impossible to walk down the street today and not see one of the distinctive white Apple ear
phones that are included with all new iPhones and iPods.
In March of this year, Apple announced the release of an SDK (Software Development Kit) which would enable
Mac Developers to create their own software for the iPhone and iPod touch platforms. All these applications
will be compatible with the second major operating system for the iPhone and iPod touch when it is released.
The Combustion Game is my own project, and first ever game on either Mac OS X or iPhone/iPod. I have a selection
of games planned, and the logical step to do this was to write a single game engine that would be capable of
powering each of the games without having to recode from the ground up for each one. The game engine uses the
classic 2D arcade-based game play common to games such as Space Invaders, Breakout and Asteroid.
Its not all just old ideas and concepts though. Coupled with the Accelerometer, Multi-touch display and
powerful graphics and audio capabilities the Combustion Game Engine aims to make a whole new gaming experience.
One of the first games that I have been working on for this game engine is a game called Blods. The game is
one I came up with years ago, that I created when I was 12. The game was simplistic in its gameplay and not
overly complex. It did however serve as an important stepping stone in my learning to develop software, and thus,
is a game I'm really looking forward to seeing properly polished, developed and distributed amongst the many
iPhone and iPod touch users.
